Abstract

This paper discusses the implementation and effectiveness of the Mini Economic Question (MEQ) project, a semester-long assignment utilized in introductory microeconomics to enhance economic literacy. Students identify economic questions grounded in real-world observations and work in teams to explain observed phenomena using core microeconomic concepts and models.  This pedagogical approach promotes economic thinking by enabling students to apply their learning to various life situations.  Students report positive learning outcomes from the MEQ project, including significant gains in using economic thinking to analyze everyday issues.  The paper outlines key benefits and impacts for students and addresses potential challenges for instructors implementing this learning activity.  A quick guide is provided for instructors.
