About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Applied Health and Behavioral Sciences in Society (JAHBSS) brings theoretical, empirical, and applied research regarding health and behavioral sciences to practitioners, scholars, and the community. The goals of the journal are to: provide theoretical foundations related to key areas regarding psychology, social work, criminal justice, and health sciences, to provide a framework for practitioner and organizational influence that affects these disciplines, and further the understanding of how the applications of research in health and behavioral sciences impact society. This journal is an interdisciplinary, online journal that seeks to publish peer-reviewed research articles, book reviews, and student research/essays.

Section Policies and Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts will undergo a double-blind peer review process. A manuscript will be fully accepted only after all the revisions required by the editor and reviewers have been made.

Publication Frequency

The Journal is published twice annually. JAHBSS is indexed with OAI-PMH harvesters, search engines, and databases such as WorldCat, Google Scholar, and DOAJ.

Open Access Policy, Archiving, and Reuse

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There are no article submission or processing charges. Each journal volume is preserved via the Walker Library's three level preservation methods including local and cloud storage.

Statement of Ethics

General ethics statements

  • The Journal of Applied Health and Behavioral Sciences in Society (JAHBSS) works to ensure ethical practices and procedures in the review and publication of its manuscripts. Ethical misconduct is not tolerated. JAHBSS protects the quality of its publication and deems plagiarism and any copyright infringement unacceptable. Authors, reviewers and editors are expected to understand and abide by the policies and guidelines set forth by JAHBSS.
  • JAHBSS adheres to the publication ethics guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics.
  • JAHBSS conducts submissions, assigns reviewers, receives reviews and announces manuscript decisions online.

     Authors are to:

  • avoid copyright infringement.
  • reveal any financial support of the study and conflicts of interest.
  • be listed as such only if valuable contributions are made to the manuscript.
  • ensure the work submitted is original and not concurrently under review at any other publication outlet.
  • report any inadvertent errors to reviewer(s) and editor(s).
  • guarantee accuracy of the work.
  • must properly acknowledge and reference sources as outlined in the author and submission guidelines of JAHBSS.

     Reviewers must:

  • treat manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • guarantee full objectivity in their reviews.
  • report incidents that will impact anonymity immediately.
  • ensure objectivity regardless of the subject matter of the manuscript.
  • remain anonymous in order to maintain confidentiality.
  • work to improve the quality of manuscripts by providing thorough reviews, comments and feedback to authors and editors.
  • reveal any potential conflicts of interest.
  • abstain from personal attacks against authors.
  • not be held responsible for the accuracy of data and results in the manuscript.

     Editors will:

  • make publication decisions based solely on the academic merit of the material.
  • not make publication decisions or attempt to influence manuscripts for commercial or political reasons.
  • investigate if made aware of any research misconduct.
  • make reviewers aware of any publication corrections.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
